A magical academy is prepared to welcome students. Not Hogwarts, but a new Netflix original film called The School for Good and Evil. The School for Good and Evil, which is based on a well-known series of fantasy novels, is set to be a star-studded event for Netflix, but can it compete with some of their other 2022 original movie successes like The Adam Project and Hustle?

The School for Good and Evil Plot

An adaptation of Soman Chainani’s young adult novel series, The School for Good and Evil, was made into a movie and published in 2013. Netflix has provided the following synopsis of the film:

“Best friends and misfits Sophie and Agatha couldn’t be any different. Sophie’s a golden-haired seamstress who dreams of becoming a princess, while Agatha has a grim aesthetic perfect for an aspiring witch. One night under a blood-red moon, a powerful force sweeps the two girls away to the School for Good and Evil — where the true stories behind every great fairy tale begin. Upon their arrival, something doesn’t seem right. Sophie is dropped into the School for Evil, led by the glamourous and acid-tongued Lady Lesso, and Agatha is enrolled in the School for Good, overseen by the sunny and kind Professor Dovey. As they navigate their diverged destinies and attend classes with the children of other famous storybook characters, the two friends must find a way back to their rightful schools.”

The School for Good and Evil Reviews

The YA fantasy movie hasn’t received many positive early reviews. The Hollywood Reporter summarises the school-themed film by stating it “deserves a failing grade,” while Variety refers to it as a “derivative magic teen franchise.”

Official Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes ratings are not yet available.
